SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Ms. Mairin Veith first came to Gallaudet in July 1996 as a student in the New Signers Programme. While a student at Gallaudet, she took advantage of all of the opportunities of students studying government in Washington, D.C. including a number of very interesting internships and the many government courses offered in the Consortium.

She graduated from Gallaudet University, Summa cum Laude in May 1999 with a double major in Government and Literature. After leaving Gallaudet, she went on to do a Masters at the University of Limerick in Ireland where she had classmates from all over Europe. Upon completing her Masters, she applied for and was selected as a Presidential Fellow in the Department of Government and History. Ms. Veith's academic work continues at the University of Maryland where her dissertation is focused on the push for a disability rights specific United Nations Convention. She has also been involved in research on disability interest groups in the European Union with Dr. David Penna and Department Chair, Russell Olson.

Ms. Veith is a member of the American Political Science Association; the International Studies Association; the Capitol Area Political Science Association; the Council for European Studies, and the European Union Studies Association.
